An Elegant Minute

Be the Role Model you Needed

This was one of the 101 ways of an Elegant Woman

I really like this one because I find that it really is easy for everyone to understand, and I think the best part of it is that it is up for interpretation. No one is actually wrong, which means technically… no one is right either.

When I was younger my mom used to say “Do as I say, not as I do.”…but it’s much more effective to show with your actions than to just be telling the how to act. Show them how to act.

When growing up we all needed someone to watch over us and guide us to make the right decisions. Some of us had amazing role models like a mom, sisters, or an aunt we could look up to. Unfortunately, there were some who did it alone.

As I have mentioned before that we are all being watched, whether we know it or not. It is imperative that we consider this before doing something regretful or pitiful.

When you are out in public and you start talking to your friends and using colorful language, there is a little girl watching thinking that this is the way an elegant woman should speak. Next time you wear those shorts that might be a tad too short, remember there are little girls that think this is how an elegant woman dresses. Or when you don’t greet a sales person because you are too busy on your phone, remember there is a little girl seeing that it is okay to ignore other people because you are too busy on your phone.

This is not exactly how you want to be seen let alone leave an impression on a little girl. Then this little girl now will think that this is how a woman should be. Then the cycle continues. Be that change you want to see in the world because the young girls don’t have the best selection of role models in the media. The children shows on television now have kids talking back to parents and entitled teens getting everything they want.

Be the role model you wanted

I want to stress the importance that you are always being watched and that is exactly why you are someone’s role model.

Even today, I am a 30-something woman and even when I see other woman and how graceful they are, or dress in such a style that flatters them, or just how they carry themselves I often find myself thinking back about them later that day or the next week. They might not even know it, but they are leaving an impression on me and on other people I am sure.

They make me want to better myself.

This is so important because you really have the chance to change someone’s day. When we are talking about very young girls, this can really change their life. It could help them make a better decision.

Think to yourself, is this what I want to be teaching other younger girls?

Does this seem like something I would want to have been seeing when I was young?

Is this something a role model would do?

You might not know it, but you are a role model for someone. Every time you see a girl or even a woman looking at you, remind yourself that you are being observed and this could be the little thing in their life that could inspire them.

Be that inspiration.

Be the role model that you wish you had.

Until next time,

Keep it elegant
