One of my favorite quotes – Mother Teresa is my final and last of this mini series. Mother Teresa knew a thing or two about helping others. She dedicated her life to making other people better. This is also something we should be keeping in mind.
While I am not asking anything close to what she accomplished. However, a simple good deed can do wonders for others and also for yourself.
Being elegant is making others around you better
When trying to be more elegant, we can sometimes be so focused on fixing ourselves, that we forget the most important part… others.
We think we can achieve elegance if we have the perfect wardrobe and the beautiful makeup and most trendy hair cut. This is all nonsense when it comes to honest genuine elegance. The kind of elegance, that people admire, the kind that people remember. Being truly elegant has nothing to do with materialism.
It is who you are as a person, as a woman.
How we treat others and how others perceive us. Not how we look, but how we are as a person.
Who we are, down to the soul. You can always fake elegance for a short period of time. But when someone looks into your eyes, they will see right through the facade.
I saved the best quote for last because this is something we should all be striving for.
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
– Mother Teresa
Isn’t this quote just so deeply inspiring?
I say this to myself when I am feeling ungrateful or impatient. I try to remember than everyone I meet at any given day is an opportunity for me to practice my elegance, poise and just being a better person.
But when we are having a bad day, we can easily forget that everyone we come in contact with is someone important. It’s someone’s child, someone’s sister or brother, someone loves them deeply and when we just pass them off as the next stranger we are doing ourselves a disservice. We shouldn’t dismiss them, we should think of a way to make their day a bit better.
Just try to imagine if everyone tried to do this at least once a day! The world would be a more generous, less selfish place to live. And it can start with you!
I really do love the idea of giving love, being benevolent, and thinking of others.
To think that someone is having a better day because of coming in contact with you is just a beautiful thought. That is why I find it so important to always be polite, always smile, and always be genuine.
You never know the kind of day someone is having and those people who are more rude to you, those are the ones that you need to give extra patience and love to.
Be remembered as an elegant woman
How nice would it be that someone goes home that day and remembers you helping them out while others just passed them. Or if you picked up their coffee tab without anything in return. Maybe even something as small as letting them go first in the grocery check out.
These little things are what people remember. And the people will remember how elegant and remarkable you were.
Isn’t that someone you would want to be? Remarkable? I think I would.
I know it’s not your job to make others happier.
I get it.
And there are days where maybe we are so miserable that we just don’t care. But one important factor in adopting an elegant lifestyle is to make others more comfortable around you, why not just add happier. I don’t see how it could hurt anyone. Do something from the heart.
If you’re not in the mood, don’t let your anger get the best of you. You don’t have to try to make friends, but be polite because if you aren’t…you will regret it later and feel bad!
So today when you go out, try to make their day better. Even with a smile, then you will know that you did your part in trying to make the world a better place.
